BACK TO OUR FIRST LOVE

Featured Scriptures: Revelation 2:4-5, Revelation 2:7, Luke 10:39-42
You can serve Jesus and still miss being with Jesus. Calendars can fill, ministries can grow, truth can be defended and good work can multiply, while somewhere beneath all that activity, the heart quietly forgets the One it was all meant to be for. "Back to Our First Love" begins in that uncomfortable space.
Featured on Until the King Returns, "Back to Our First Love" speaks to believers, worshippers, ministry teams and churches who have become so busy doing things for God that intimacy with God has begun to disappear. The song does not dismiss faithful service. Its opening verses acknowledge perseverance, Kingdom work, standing for truth and guarding what matters. Then comes the question that changes everything: "We're busy for You but are we with You?"
Revelation 2:4-5 contains Christ's sobering message to the church in Ephesus. Despite their hard work, perseverance and discernment, they had forsaken the love they had at first. Jesus calls them to remember, repent and return. Revelation 2:7 follows with the invitation to hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Luke 10:39-42 brings Mary into the picture, sitting at Jesus' feet while Martha is distracted by everything that needs to be done. Jesus identifies Mary's choice of being with Him as the one thing truly necessary. Together, these passages expose a danger particular to sincere believers: doing much for Jesus while slowly losing the delight of simply being with Him.
Busy calendars, harvest work, a guarded flock, running on fumes and the hollow sound of service without intimacy create the tension within the lyrics. Then everything turns. Noise gives way to repentance. Activity gives way to sitting at Jesus' feet. Distance gives way to return. The repeated prayer, "Let the fire of our first love burn", becomes the song's heartbeat, not a request for greater productivity, but for affection for Christ to become central again.
For anyone searching for Christian songs about first love, worship songs about returning to Jesus, songs inspired by Revelation 2:4-5, music about the church in Ephesus, songs about Mary and Martha, Luke 10:39-42, intimacy with God, spiritual burnout, being too busy for God, ministry exhaustion, repentance, sitting at Jesus' feet, restoring your relationship with God, or putting Jesus before ministry, "Back to Our First Love" speaks directly to that moment of realisation. It reminds the Church that faithfulness is not only measured by what we accomplish for Christ, but by whether He remains our heart's greatest treasure.
Maybe the answer to spiritual exhaustion is not another thing to do. Maybe it is to remember, turn around and sit at His feet again. "Back to Our First Love" does not call the Church away from serving Jesus. It calls us back to the love from which all true service was meant to flow.
