LIGHT FOUND ME: SONG OF SIMEON

LIGHT FOUND ME: SONG OF SIMEON

Featured Scriptures: Luke 2:29-32, Luke 2:25-27, Luke 2:34-35

He had spent a lifetime waiting for one moment. No date had been given. No timetable explained. Only a promise from the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Messiah. Then, on an ordinary day in the temple, an elderly man took a Child into his arms and realised the waiting was over.

"Light Found Me: Song of Simeon", featured on Heaven Has Spoken, tells the Christmas story through Simeon's encounter with Jesus. While others might have seen only Mary, Joseph and their infant Son, Simeon recognised what God had promised him: salvation standing before his eyes, the glory of Israel and a Light that would reach far beyond Israel to the nations of the world.

Luke 2:25-27 introduces Simeon as righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, with the Holy Spirit upon him and guiding him into the temple at precisely the right moment. Luke 2:29-32 records the extraordinary words that followed as Simeon held Jesus and declared that his eyes had now seen God's salvation, prepared before all peoples, "a light for revelation to the Gentiles" and the glory of Israel. Luke 2:34-35 adds a more sobering prophecy: this Child would cause the rising and falling of many, be opposed, reveal hearts and bring a sword of sorrow even to Mary's own soul. The infant Simeon held was both the promised Light and the Saviour whose road would ultimately lead to the cross.

A temple visited day after day. Ancient promises remembered. A Spirit-led encounter. Ageing eyes suddenly looking upon the face of salvation. Then the shadow of redemption's future cost. "Light Found Me: Song of Simeon" holds waiting, fulfilment and sacrifice together, allowing the Christmas story to look forward towards everything this Child had come to accomplish. Its central confession is beautifully simple: "My eyes have seen salvation."

For anyone searching for Christian Christmas songs about Simeon, songs inspired by Luke 2:25-35, worship songs about waiting on God's promise, music about the presentation of Jesus at the temple, the Nunc Dimittis, Jesus as the Light for the nations, salvation for the Gentiles, the consolation of Israel, the Holy Spirit leading Simeon, God's faithfulness, fulfilled prophecy, waiting for the Messiah, or finding peace after a long season of waiting, "Light Found Me: Song of Simeon" gives voice to the moment when faith finally becomes sight.

Simeon waited years to see what he had believed. Then salvation arrived small enough to be held in his arms. "Light Found Me: Song of Simeon" leaves us with the peace of a promise fulfilled: the waiting ends, the Light has come, and the Saviour Simeon saw is still the Light for every nation.
