WHEN THE TRUMPETS SOUND

WHEN THE TRUMPETS SOUND

Featured Scriptures: Revelation 8:6-13, Revelation 9:1-21, Revelation 10:7

First came silence. Then came the sound. Revelation's seventh seal opens with heaven holding its breath, but what follows is anything but quiet. Angels raise their trumpets, creation is shaken, judgement reaches earth, sea and sky, and humanity is confronted with a question that runs beneath every catastrophe: will they finally turn to God?

"When the Trumpets Sound", featured on Until the King Returns, continues through Revelation's prophetic vision into the trumpet judgements. Yet beneath its apocalyptic imagery lies an urgent message of repentance. Its refrain, "Repent, return, the hour is here", places the listener not merely among the events of Revelation, but before the mercy of God while there is still time to respond.

Revelation 8:6-13 introduces the first four trumpets, bringing judgement upon the land, sea, waters and heavens. Revelation 9:1-21 moves into the terrifying fifth and sixth trumpets: the abyss is opened, locust-like beings emerge, four angels are released at the Euphrates, and immense destruction follows. Yet perhaps the chapter's most sobering detail comes afterwards. Despite everything they witness, those who survive still refuse to repent. Revelation 10:7 then looks towards the sounding of the seventh trumpet, when the mystery of God will be accomplished as He declared to His servants the prophets.

Fire falling upon the land. A sea turned red. Bitter waters. A darkened sun and moon. Smoke rising from the abyss. Locusts emerging from darkness. Armies advancing beside the Euphrates. The song follows Revelation's imagery without looking away, but repeatedly returns to something greater than destruction: the sovereignty of the Lamb and the certainty of His Word. Even amid judgement, the lyric insists, "Still mercy calls through fear and fire."

For anyone searching for Christian songs about Revelation, the seven trumpets, Revelation 8, Revelation 9, Revelation 10:7, end-times prophecy, the trumpet judgements, Wormwood, the abyss, the Euphrates, locusts in Revelation, repentance before judgement, God's wrath, the last days, the mystery of God, or the return and reign of Jesus Christ, "When the Trumpets Sound" brings those themes into one urgent biblical warning. At its heart is not fascination with catastrophe, but the call to turn towards God while mercy still invites a response.

Before the final trumpet sounds, mercy still calls. That is where "When the Trumpets Sound" leaves us: not trying to predict the hour, but confronted by the One who holds history in His hands. The trumpets are coming. The Word is sure. The Lamb is King. And while there is still time, the invitation remains: repent and return.
